My Favourite Music Videos of 2014

Music is a big part of video, and having music as the subject matter always has the creative mind working. Music videos don’t tend to get the same budgets as they used to, meaning that the idea is usually the key element. I do find myself spending endless hours watching music videos, and below are some of my favourite from 2014:

Roy Kafri – Mayokero

This video works so well in grabbing your attention. OK, in my opinion, the music track isn’t that great, but it’s the visuals that draw me in. There’s so many key album covers that feature in this music video, and the way the album covers are manipulated is cleverly done.

Flying Lotus – Never Catch Me ft Kendrick Lamar

This video over time has become even more relevant. With all the happenings over in the US, the meaning behind these two kids dancing their way out of their own funeral is enough to break your heart. Also, there are some seriously good young dancers around showcasing their skills.

Action Bronson – Easy Rider

Action has had some serious YouTube plays with his documentary serious about food – ‘F**K, That’s Delicious’, however he hasn’t brought out that much in terms of any visuals for his music, meaning fans were looking forward to the release of Easy Rider. And he hasn’t disappointed, featuring one of the best cinematic barfights of the year, easily.

RUFUS – We Left

Who knew only using effectively  quarter of the screen for most the video would be so effective. Even when the full screen is used, the images have been so well manipulated to work the text graphic into the video that after viewing, you will not forget the name RUFUS. Technically this video came out 3 years ago, but I watched it for the first time in 2014, and liked it.
