It’s time to clear up some of that video jargon you may have been hearing floating around. Often a lot of words can be thrown about between crew that may not make sense to you.

Let’s take a look at what it actually means and, hopefully, this will help on your next project.

BRAND VIDEO:

This is a video type that tells your brand story. These videos are often filmed, but animation is also becoming increasingly popular. These are generally more artistic and cinematic than a standard explainer video.

CLIENT TESTIMONIAL:

A video featuring one of your clients explaining how your product or service has changed their business for the better. It has more impact than company sales talk because it comes from a third party.

EXPLAINER VIDEO:

This is usually a short video that explains concepts in a simple and engaging w

ay. It is a more subtle method of marketing but when done professionally it has a high impact.

SQUARE VIDEO:

This is in reference to the size and shape of the video. These usually belong on social media so may be referred to as a social media video. The video being square favours social media feeds, specifically Instagram. If you are looking to distribute your video on your social media channels, make sure they are formatted square for certain sites.

B-ROLL:

This is supporting footage that will feature alongside your main interview.

EXPORTING:

This means the edit is being packaged into a single video file ready for you to view.

PTC:

This is short for a piece to camera. Where the interviewee will be looking directly at the lens.

STORYBOARDING:

Your video, but on paper. This is a visual representation of what your video will look like. It features either drawings or images, with some direction on dialogue. It gives you an idea of how the end product will look.
