This incredible Graduation Film “Roomate Wanted” was made by a team of ten third year Character Animation and CG Arts students at The Animation Workshop in Vibord, Denmark.

Writer and co director David Crisp talks about the project on his website Monkey Tennis and discusses their inspiration behind some of the character elements of the video. He states that it is a “refreshing and modern reflection on the ‘odd couple’ situational comedies made popular by Jack Lemmon & Walter Matthau. With the addition of the zombie, the humour in the film also takes great inspiration from classic, awkward British comedy projects such as Fawlty Towers, Mr Bean and The Office”.

It’s a simple idea, but with a twist. Two roommates attempt to live together, but one is a zombie. But what makes this video so captivating is the subtle details. Even when the characters are performing most simplest of tasks, like making a cup of tea or clicking a computer mouse, the attention to detail is clear. Using a wide array of software including Maya, Mari, Photoshop and Nuke, the team really have done an amazing job. The video is getting quite a bit of recognition, even though it has only been live for a few weeks, and so it’s no surprise that this animation is one of Vimeo’s Staff Picks this week.

Check out this incredible Tumblr page for the project which charts the production which went on for three months and takes a look at life behind the scenes, giving a little insight into the methods they used to film this video. Take a look and enjoy!
