Video Production
Myths

Over the years at Holler, we’ve run into quite a few myths about video production. It’s understandable; it’s a complex industry that can often be misunderstood. A couple of months ago we exposed our top 4 video production myths, so now we’re going to be exposing even more misconceptions about video production.

Myth 1: “It’s fine, you can fix that in the edit”

We hear this one quite a lot. To be fair, there usually is some work-around for most issues in post-production. However, the reality is that it’s extremely time-consuming with no guarantee that they will actually work. It’s something that really has to potential to ruin a good video. It really is worth taking the time on the day to figure out a solution in production.

“Our attitude at Holler is: plan it well, shoot it well, edit it well.”

Myth 2: “I’ve got to film in different areas, so I’ll need to hire more than one production company.”

On the face of it, this may seem like the logical thing to do. But it’s an extremely impractical way of going about this. For example, if you have 5 different locations in 5 different parts of the country, you’ve got to manage 5 different video production companies. Not only would this increase the chances of things going wrong, but it would also be extremely stressful to manage. On top of that, if all this footage is going into one video, you’re video is not going to have a consistent style. This is because each different production company will have different ways of working, using different equipment and editing on different software.

At Holler, we can film anywhere in the country or the world, in multiple locations with our in-house team of video experts and deliver you a consistent and high quality corporate video.

Myth 3: “We don’t need that many people. Just send a cameraman.”

When it comes to video production crews, there’s no such thing as an unnecessary crewmember. From directors to runners, every person plays a crucial role in the production. Directors and Producers will know the video brief inside out, so will know exactly what needs to be shot and how it needs to look. Also never underestimate the importance of a runner or assistant. Having an extra pair of hands, legs and eyes on set can be the difference between a successful, easy shoot and a stressful and difficult shoot.

Myth 4: “My video only needs to go on YouTube.”

There’s no doubt that YouTube is one of the best places to put your corporate video. YouTube has over 1 billion users, watching hundreds of millions of hours of videos, which generates billions of views. But if you’re only putting your video on YouTube, you’re still missing out on a large audience. Don’t be afraid to send you video out to different outlets like your company website and all your company’s social media pages. It seems obvious, but the more places your video is, the more likely people are going to see it.

Myth 5: “The success of the video is based on how many views it gets.”

We hear this one a lot, as well. We’re not denying that having a lot of views is great, it means that people are watching your video. Which is the point. But what’s more important is what people do after they watch the video. Are they simply moving on to the next video or are they following your call-to-actions? Are they searching the Internet to find out more about your product/service? You could get a video with 1000 views, but not generate any business. On the other hand, you could have a video with 500 views and generate 100 new customers. There are sophisticated marketing apps and software that can help calculate these different things. But don’t feel that the success of the video is purely based on views.
