YouTube looks set to announce a range of Channels that users would have to pay to subscribe to, and view content.

Joining the growing trend of the likes of Netflix and Vimeo On Demand, it has been reported that YouTube is “looking into creating a ‘subscription platform’ that provides its partners with a way to generate revenue beyond video rentals and placing ads in and around content”, suggesting the new service will be ad-free and will allow content creators to make money directly from viewers.

Introducing pay Channels will be a big move for YouTube, which recently announced that it now has 1 billion unique visitors every month.

The Google owned video sharing website introduced today’s Channels back in December 2011, to create an experience that complimented it’s Google+ social networking site. The move allowed for a rise in the use of YouTube as a marketing tool, enabling businesses to create an on-brand page containing all their promotional material, including corporate videos, pod-casts and vlogs.

YouTube Channels can be a fantastic way to advertise and improve your SEO by including links to your website and social networking sites. Adding tags and annotations can lead the viewer to subscribe to your Channel, view more videos and visit your website.
