Earlier this week Coldplay released the music video for one of their latest singles; Up & Up . And it’s a beauty.

A real master class in video composition, the video features Chris Martin & co in all sorts of impossible locations and all sorts of mind bending scenes. Directed by Vania Heymann & Gal Muggia, the video plays around with different perspectives to make some truly spellbinding imagery. From eagles flying underwater to vintage cars racing on the rings of Saturn. Each scene in the video toys with scales, perspectives and defies the laws of gravity; blurring the lines between reality and imagination.

For those who are unaware of what a video composition is; in short, it’s a video image that incorporates two or more different media images on screen. This includes video, pictures, animations, words and anything else you can make a digital image of. That’s exactly what the makers have done. They’ve taken various different clips and merged them together to show one mesmerising scene. It’s hard enough doing this with still images, but doing it successfully with video takes a huge amount of skill.

It’s fair to say that it has been extremely popular since it landed. It managed to rack up nearly 3 million views on YouTube on the first day. So it’s not just us video nerds who are excited about it.

Chris Martin himself said that he was super happy with the final product. He stated that “it’s one of the best videos ever made and I can’t believe that it’s our video”. We don’t think he’s wrong, and we think that this could be a contender to win a lot of awards when the VMAs come along.

If you haven’t already seen it, we’ve put a link below. So sit back, relax and enjoy.
